NEXT COMMUNITY WORKING B
Saturday 13th September 9am - 12pm

I would like to invite everyone who has expressed an interest in the Eco garden project to come down on Saturday 13th September and help make this working B another great community gathering.

The Eco Garden has come on so quickly over the past two weeks and it is great to see the commitment and enthusiasm clearly being demonstrated to get this fabulous community project off the ground.

Please take the time to access the blog which the youth centre team have set up and continue to update and please put your comments on the website.
The address is http://kincumbercommunityecogarden.blogspot.com/

Since the successful second Working B which took place on 23rd August we have really been moving.

We have a shed completely finished and built, thanks to the youth group members who gave up their afternoon chilling out in the youth centre to pull nails out of the wood ready for the builders, even though we didn't quite get the job finished!

The Eco Garden now has a workforce! Starting today we have three young males aged 17 doing 15 hours a week on the site preparing it for the festival and beyond. The boys have been selected through Breakthru Employment Solutions to work on the site. Breakthru have also provided us with Dennis , our new garden guru who is supervising the boys.

Also a huge thumbs up to Matt from supacyclers whose commitment and enthusiasm is second to none.

Also a big thank you to Youth Services staff who have worked on both of the working B's and provided the youth centre as a refreshment facility on the days and for the provision of a fabulous morning tea which have included cakes and home made biscuits made by staff and young people at the centre.

The pathways are being dug, crushed brick recycled materials are being prepared and sorted ready for laying, and the chook shed is taking shape.

Would anybody out there be interested in sitting on our Steering committee? It was a little disappointing to note that the last meeting was cancelled due to a lack of attendees.
If you are interested please let me know.

Please see if you can make the next Working B on 13th September and make sure you complete the sign in and out book when working in the garden.
If possible we would love to call on Steering committee members or volunteers to help with the provision of the Morning tea on subsequent working B's so as not to stretch youth centre resources.

Please remember that any volunteer, worker or steering committee member working on the site MUST become an official Gosford City Council Volunteer and therefore MUST complete working with children checks and volunteer forms.
Please see me at the Centre to complete this documentation and don't forget to save your newspapers!

2nd Working Bee

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

This Saturday from 8 am we are holding another working bee for all those people who would llike to be involved in the project.

Things we would love to tackle this weekend are:

  • Laying the gravel for the pathways

  • Preparing garden beds

  • Painting the back fence

  • General Tidy and Maintenance

  • and much more

Hope to see you there...from 8 am till 12pm! Go garden~

A big thank you to all our amazing volunteers who made there way down to the beginnings of out little community garden to work on the first working bee. A wonderful group of people turned up on the day, including LLoyd and Matt from Supcycla.

We achieved so much more than was expected. Trees were pruned, recycled timber cleared, and sorted into nailed and de-nailed, holes were dug for the posts for the chicken shack, and paths were scraped out for the garden, amongst a few of the accomplishments.

Again, we extend a bug thank you to all who were there on the day. Your commitment and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated. Our community garden cant do it without you.

Watch this space for details of the next working bee.
